Although Shutterfly is unable to provide full foreign language support for, there are special characters used in some foreign languages that are supported.

Helpful Tips
- Only standard 7 bit ASCII characters are accepted. ASCII stands for the American Standard Code for Information Interchange.
- Extra characters representing non-English language characters, graphics, symbols, currency symbols, and mathematical symbols are unable to be accepted.
- The chart below lists accepted special characters and tips for adding foreign language characters to Shutterfly projects.

Adding Characters Using Windows
Alt codes, a combination of keystrokes, produce the desired character. A numeric keypad is required to use alt codes.

- Find the desired alt code in the list above.
- Ensure the Num Lock (Number Lock) is enabled on the keypad.
- Press and Hold Down the "Alt" key on the keyboard.
- Enter the alt code using the keypad.
- Release the "Alt" key and the symbol should be inserted.
Accessing Windows Character Map

- Click: Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Character Map.
- Find the desired character.
- Double-click the character to select it.
- Repeat as needed until all desired characters have been selected.
- Click 'Copy' to copy the character(s) to the clipboard.
- Return to the Shutterfly project and Open the desired text box.
- Press Ctrl and V to paste the character(s) into the text box.
Adding Characters Using a Mac
- Hold a key down until its alternate characters are displayed.

- Type the number that is displayed under the desired character or Click the desired character
- Press the escape (Esc) key to exit the alternate characters without inserting.
- The pop-over menu only appears if there are additional characters for the pressed key.
- The menu isn't displayed when the Key Repeat slider is set to Off in the Keyboard pane of System Preferences.
Mac Character Viewer

Open the desired text box.

Click the Edit menu in the Finder menu bar and Choose "Emoji & Symbols' (in some versions, this may be 'Special Characters').

- Note: If the Characters window appears compressed, click the symbol in the upper right corner to expand it.
- Select the Latin character set (a).
- Click the desired letter (b).
- Find the related character (c) and Double-click to insert it into the text box.
- Repeat as needed until all desired characters have been inserted.
- Close the window to return to the project.

Adding Characters on a Mobile Device
- Hold a key down until its alternate characters are displayed,
- Move finger to the desired character and Release.
Select Device: iOS | Android
iOS (iPhone and iPad)

- Tap the ".?123" button on the keyboard to switch to the numbers and symbols view.
- Tap the "#+=" button to see additional characters.
Android
- Tap the ":1#" button on the keyboard to switch to the numbers and symbols view.
- Tap the ">" button to see additional characters.
Spanish Keyboard
Using a Spanish keyboard on a mobile device will provide access to additional characters as well as text/spelling support.
