Shutterfly offers a variety of Photo Book cover and page types. Select a style and cover to begin a book, with the option to modify during editing. Below are the cover types offered. 

• The minimum number of pages for a Photo Book is 20, and the maximum is 111.

Styles shape the overall appearance of a Photo Book with a selection of fonts, backgrounds, colors, and stickers. Shutterfly offers a range of styles, from simple everyday options to more decorative ones.

• Each style includes a unique set of design elements that complement one another, which can also be combined from different styles.
• Key design elements include:
  • Layouts: Various arrangements for photos and text.
  • Backgrounds: Options to change page colors and designs.  
  • Embellishments: Stickers or frames that enhance pages.  
  • Idea Pages: Inspiration from professionally designed layouts.  
• The Photo Book style can be switched at any point during project creation.
  • Please Note: Changing the style may also alter the layouts, text sizes, and customizations made within the book. A warning window will indicate possible changes, which can be undone if needed.  

The Designer Collection, also known as Storytelling, features premium designs suitable for any occasion, curated by some of Shutterfly's top designers. Look for styles marked as Designer Collection or use the filter to sort by Designer Collection Styles. 

The following is an example of the Photo Book filter with Designer Collection Styles selected.

• Designer Collection styles incur an additional $5.99 per photo book, resulting in a Designer Collection fee for each book ordered.

• Access to all styles from any Designer Collection (excluding Disney), including unlimited use of Storytelling Idea Pages, Backgrounds, and Embellishments, are available at no extra cost.

• Charges apply only when placing an order, allowing free exploration of any desired design elements.

• Designer Collection styles and design elements feature an 'S' icon and can be filtered to display only Designer Collection styles when selecting a Photo Book style.

Metallic Cover Accents include embellishments, idea pages, and font colors for hard matte covers only. Find Metallic Cover Accents by looking for embellishments with the Metallic icon (silver M or gold triangle with $) or styles categorized as Metallic. 

• The Metallic Cover Accents range from $11.99 to $21.99 per photo book, depending on the book size. 

• Metallic Cover Accents are currently offered in Photo Book sizes 8x8, 8x11, 11x8, 10x10, 12x12, and 11x14.

• Only the matte hard Photo Book covers can support Metallic Cover Accents. 

• Standard, Glossy, Standard Layflat, and Deluxe Layflat pages are available for books with Metallic Cover Accents.

• Once a Metallic Cover Accent is added to a book, there's no charge for additional Metallic Accents. 

  • Charges are per Photo Book, so ordering multiple books will incur multiple charges for Metallic covers.

• Use the Idea Pages with Metallic Accents to beautifully showcase any photo book.

When creating a photo book, the default page type is standard. Change the page/book type using the Options tab or by clicking 'Change Book Options.' Switch back to standard pages at any time by clicking 'Undo' or returning to the Options/Change Book Options tab. 

• Please Note: Standard Layflat and Deluxe Layflat pages are unavailable for 11x8 photo books.

Standard pages  Printed on acid-free, 65 lb. (7.2 mil thick) matte cover weight paper and available for all book sizes and types.
Glossy Pages  Printed on the same 65 lb. matte paper as standard pages with a high gloss UV coating for additional protection. Upgrade to Glossy Pages for an additional charge.   Please Note: Glossy Pages are unavailable with Soft Cover Photo Books.
Standard Layflat (Hinged)  Printed on Standard matte-finish paper and show off your photos across each spread with a hinged binding. Upgrade to Standard Layflat Pages for an additional charge. Please Note: Standard Layflat Pages are unavailable with Soft Cover Photo Books and size 11x8 Photo Books.
Deluxe Layflat (Seamless)  Printed on double-thick, acid-free approximately 70 lb. (190 g/m2) cover weight, premium professional grade e-photo paper and have a lustre finish. The pages lay flat when your book is open, which allows for a seamless view across them. Upgrade to Deluxe Layflat for an additional charge.  Please Note: Standard Layflat Pages are unavailable with Soft Cover Photo Books and size 11x8 Photo Books.

What type of pen should be used to write on Photo Book pages?

• No specific pen recommendation is provided, but not all pens are created equal. Test the pen on a back page or an inconspicuous area of the book before using.

Are Photo Books made of archival paper?

• Photo Book paper is acid-free, providing a much longer life expectancy than alternatives and being significantly more environmentally friendly since it is sustainably harvested.

Is the paper recycled? 

• A recycled paper that meets Shutterfly's photo printing standards has not been found yet.

• 6 Color Printing
  • This printing option achieves more photo-realistic images by using CMKY ink plus two lighter shades of cyan and magenta.
  • The advanced 6 color printing process creates smoother tones, subtle color blends, and more ink coverage on every page, resulting in beautifully printed photos.
  • 6 Color printing is available for Photo Book pages only and is unavailable for any Albums or Soft Cover Photo Books. 
    

• Remove Logo
  
  • For an additional fee, selecting this option allows the Shutterfly logo to be removed from the logo page in order to attain a clean, sophisticated appearance. 
     
    
• Memorabilia Pocket
  • The Memorabilia Pocket measures approximately 7.5" x 7" and is made of archival-safe, acid-free material to keep contents safe from wear and tear. The transparent pocket comes enclosed within the Photo Book and can be adhered using two adhesive strips on the back.
    • To adhere the pocket, remove the adhesive backing and apply it to the inside, front, or back cover of the photo book.
    • An additional adhesive strip on the front flap is resealable, allowing souvenirs to be added or removed after the pocket has been applied.
    • To avoid damaging the Photo Book, the pocket shouldn't be removed after it has been applied. 
    • To add a pocket to the Photo Book order, click 'Options/Change Book Options' and check the box in the Memorabilia Pocket section.
    • Memorabilia Pockets are only available with the purchase of a Photo Book and are not sold separately.
    • Limit one pocket per book.  

• Gift Box
  • Shutterfly offers gift boxes for Photo Books, with three designs to choose from. The default selection is None.
